You walk to your dining room table and stare at all the envelopes of student loan bills scattered with no end in sight.
You wonder when will life get better? You wonder when will you be able to afford an apartment? You wonder when will you be able to cut the ball and chain from your leg? You wonder if you will ever experience life? You wonder if you will ever have children? You wonder if the stress will ever go away? You wonder if your back will stop hurting? You wonder if the headaches will ever stop? You wonder if you will ever find a career that does not pay below $50,000 a year?
What are you supposed to do to tackle this debt when there are no options? What are you supposed to do to make payments each month when you don’t even make enough?
How do you tell your parents that the loan that they co-signed will be going into default?
How do you tell your family that the loan sharks have killed their lives?
What are you supposed to do when you know that these private loan lenders are taking advantage of the entire population of educated people?
What are you supposed to do if you once believed that this country was the country of opportunity?
Every day these educated, talented and smart individuals are forced to live in a large prison. They are forced to be tied to the economic level of the very poor. They are forced to not enjoy life. They are forced to not have hope for the future.
How can these private lenders sleep at night knowing that they destroyed the lives of so many individuals? How do they tell their children that they are good people? How do they tell their spouse that they are successful business people when they are forcing so many to live in poverty? How do they look in the mirror and not feel disgusted?
Somebody needs to take a loss and it shouldn’t be the ones who wanted an education.
